The department has GC-MS and GC-FID instruments for qualitative and quantitative gas chromatography.

Thermo Scientific Trace 1300 ISQ (GC-MS)

A single quadrupole GC/MS instrument with EI- and CI- ionization sources. Includes also direct sampling probe and head-space techniques. The TriPlus RSH autosampler has a sample capasity of 150 2 ml vials and 60 headspace vials. The instrument is controlled with Xcalibur data acquisition and processing software which contains a NIST 2014 library of 270,000 mass spectra.

Agilent 1260 Infinity HPLC with 6530 QTOF (LC-MS/MS)

HPLC system with binary pump capable for gradient elution with flow rate 0,05-5 ml/min and operating pressure up to 600 bar. Autosampler for 100 sample vials and sensitive Diode array detector (DAD) with 10 or 60 mm max light cartridge flow cells. Can be operated also without MS connection.

QTOF is an accurate mass Quadrupole-Time of Flight mass spectrometer for profiling, identifying and characterizing small molecular weight compounds and complex samples. Dual ESI source for positive or negative ionization capable also fast polarity switching scan by scan. High resolution up to 20 000 and mass accuracy MS/MS within 2 ppm.

 

Thermo Scientific UltiMate3000 RSLCnano with Bruker amazon speed ETD (LC-MS/MS)

Nano-HPLC system setup for LC-MS proteomics workflows. Can be coupled to Iontrap mass spectrometer or MALDI-TOF via a fraction collector (Bruker Proteineer fc II). Contains a 25 cm Acclaim Pepmap C18 separation column with 3 µm particle size.

Bruker amaZon speed ETD is an iontrap mass spectrometer with nanospray ESI source. Two fragmentation modes: CID and ETD, fragmentation possible up to MS(6). The device can be used via direct infusion or coupled with nano-HPLC for proteomic and glycoproteomic LC-MS workflows.

Bruker ultrafleXtreme MALDI-TOF/TOF

Mass spectrometer for MS and MS/MS analysis of e.g. proteins, peptides, oligosaccharides and oligonucleotides. A broad mass range and resolution up to 40 000. The MALDI-TOF can also be coupled to nano HPLC (UltiMate 3000 RSLCnano) via a fraction collector (Bruker Proteineer fc II) for proteomic and glycoproteomic LC-MALDI workflows.

Thermo Scientific Vanquish (UHPLC)

Fully integrated biocompatible UHPLC system for protein and peptide workflows. Quaternary (4 solvent channels), low pressure mixing gradient pump. Operating pressure max 1000 bar and flow rate up to 5 ml/min. Column oven temperature range 5 -120 °C with active pre heater and post column cooling. Air stream cooling 4-40 °C autosampler for 208 sample vials. Diode array detector DAD and automatic fraction collector.

Agilent 1260 Infinity Multi-Detector GPC/SEC System

Infinity 1260 quaternary HPLC pump capable for gradient elution with flow rate 0,05-5 ml/min and operating pressure up to 600 bar. Autosampler for 100 sample vials with thermostat settable from 4 °C to 40 °C. Column oven holds up to three 30 cm columns and go 10 °C below ambient to 80 °C. Detection setup with concentration detectors (refractive index and UV), dual angle light scattering and viscometer. The Agilent GPC software can be used for calculating molecular weight distributions.

SEC setup for aqueous soluble lignin and oligosaccharides uses alkaline eluent and a series of three Waters Ultrahydrogel columns (7x30 mm 500Å, 250Å, 120Å) which covers mw range 100 – 400 K.
