Optical microscopes 

We have a wide selection of microscopes for teaching and research purposes.

Confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM)

CLSM is a powerful tool in visualizing the three dimensional structure of sample. Confocal microscope is an optical microscope equipped with a very narrow pinhole in front of the detector. The acquired image is a thin slice of a sample. By moving the sample between scans, a stack of slices is acquired. The resulting matrix is used to calculate the final image.

Atomic force microscope (AFM)

Atomic force microscopy (AFM) is a very high-resolution type of scanning probe microscopy, with demonstrated resolution on the order of fractions of a nanometer, more than 1000 times better than the optical diffraction limit.

The MultiMode 8 atomic force microscope (AFM) has been upgraded in September 2016. A new camera has been installed to display a real-time video image of the scanned sample in the AFM computer. The software for AFM measurements has also been updated with the activation of the PeakForce QNM option. In addition to normal topographic images, PeakForce QNM can also record simultaneously images with information on mechanical properties of the sample (elastic modulus, adhesion, deformation, dissipation).
